ABOUT THE ROLE

The Regional Early Acquisition of Language project is a national effort which when fully formed will include four regional centers across the United States and Territories. REAL South, located at AIDB is unique among the regions as it is a sub-recipient of federal funds in collaboration with our project partner the Laurent Clerc Center at Gallaudet University. The project serves 11 southern states and two U.S. territories, the U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico. The Regional Early Acquisition of Language (REAL) Family Service Coordinator reports to the REAL South Co-Directors.

The Family Services Coordinator (FSC) will provide information, resources and referrals to families within the designated region of REAL South. Some responsibilities that this role entails are: connecting families to information and resources related to language acquisition and development, connecting families with Deaf mentors or local family organizations, marketing available resources for families, supporting scholarship screening and selection for various learning opportunities for families, assisting in organizing events for families, and organizing and shipping family resource packages.



REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Minimum of Bachelor Degree in Social Work, Human Services, Early Childhood Education, Deaf Education or related field.
  • Minimum one (1) year of experience working in parental support, parent advocacy, Early Intervention System, Early Childhood Education, Deaf Education or related field.
  • Sign language proficiency of INTERMEDIATE upon hire; Sign language proficiency of ADVANCED within 36 months of employment


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Masters Degree in Social Work, Human Services, Early Childhood Education, Deaf Education, or related field.
  • Minimum three (3) years of experience working in parental support, parent advocacy, Early Intervention System, Early Childhood Education, Deaf Education or related field.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
  • Coordinate, disseminate and market various resources to families with infants and toddlers who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing across the REAL South service area.
  • Frequent in-state and out-state travel to fulfill position responsibilities as well as attend events and conferences to provide support.
  • Organize and support family events such as retreats, social gatherings, and learning opportunities.
  • Work a flexible schedule as needed including nights and weekends.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with community, state and national partners to disseminate state and local resources to meet the unique needs of Deaf and Hard of Hearing infants and toddlers and their families.
  • Contribute to and maintain a database of resources available for all states and territories in the REAL South region.
  • Maintain confidentiality and follow a high standard of ethics.
  • Ability to work with the Clerc Center representatives in the development, implementation and monitoring of REAL project goals and objectives.
  • Prioritize work appropriately and make the best use of available time and resources to meet deadlines and individual goals in an organized way.
  • Ability to easily adapt to changing business needs, conditions, and work responsibilities to achieve successful solutions and results.
  • Demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills, conflict resolution and a willingness to collaborate with a team.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Upon offer of employment, the applicant must submit to a fingerprint background check at an agency designated and paid by AIDB.
  • Participate in appropriate training sessions, workshops and conferences throughout the nation as well as within AIDB, Alabama State Department of Education, Special Education Services and Gallaudet University.
  • May be required to obtain a valid drivers license and provide current auto insurance policy.

SALARY; $51,366- $68,527 ScaleD4 Rank 52 (230 Days)

Direct deposit is required.

This is an exempt position, and is not subject to overtime and/or compensatory time provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
