ABOUT THE ROLE

The Media Specialist plays an integral part of the daily operations within the Office of Special Projects and is critical to the continued success of the department's federally funded programs (Center for Assistive Technology Training, Regional Early Acquisition of Language, NTID Regional STEM Center). In collaboration with Special Projects Program staff, the Media Specialist is responsible for assisting with the ongoing development, implementation and monitoring of the social media strategy of AIDB Special Projects, as well as, for providing guidance and support for digital media, design, and marketing. In the effort to enhance public relations efforts across programs, the Media Specialist will directly assist in developing and implementing our media strategy to increase the online presence and brand awareness of AIDB Special Projects.

ABOUT YOU

The Media Specialist will develop, coordinate, and manage the creation of digital content such as websites, email distribution, conference materials, press releases, infographics, photography, and videos. Strong graphic design skills will be utilized to produce a wide variety of printed and digital marketing materials, including brochures, flyers, banners, and business cards. The ability to use tools such as Photoshop, Final Cut Pro, and other creative software is essential for delivering high-quality media content. The Media Specialist will serve to standardize digital presentations and backgrounds used within Special Projects. The position will work closely with AIDB's Office of Institutional Advancement to adhere to all policies and procedures.

The successful candidate will be a skilled communicator, versatile writer, and a team player. Knowledge of and experience around digital accessibility are imperative. You will be involved in data collection and analysis to improve AIDB Special Projects' public relations practices over time. Your contribution in this role will have a direct impact on the ongoing success of the Office of Special Projects and AIDB. Local, regional, and national travel is required. Applicants must provide a digital media portfolio showcasing their ability to create professional content across various platforms.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, marketing, communications, public relations, digital media, or a related field.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including travel (local, regional, and national).
  • Experience specific to digital accessibility (i.e. ensuring a website, social media page, mobile application, or electronic document is easily navigated and understood by a wide range of users including those with sensory differences).
  • Experience in social and/or digital media work and planning and managing digital content, including photography and videography.
  • Experience using event management and email distribution software.


POSITION REQUIREMENTS
  • Develop, manage, and implement social media strategies.
  • Manage and oversee digital media content, including taking photos and videos with appropriate technology.
  • Stay abreast of the latest social media best practices and technologies.
  • Competency working with individuals who have vision and/or hearing differences as well as individuals who do not have any sensory differences (i.e. consumers, key stakeholders, staff/parents).
  • Knowledge of graphic design principles.
  • Utilize social media marketing tools.
  • Manage user engagement.
  • Formulate high quality, fully accessible creative content for digital media and marketing campaigns.
  • Build and maintain brand awareness.
  • Maintain the identity and reputation of AIDB Special Projects and Federal Partners.
  • Develop press kit materials for media outlets, including press releases, images, pitch letters, feature articles, and trend stories.
  • Oversee and respond to comments on each AIDB Special Projects' social media accounts.
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with regional and national media outlets.
  • Coordinate press conferences, interviews, and other media and event appearances.
  • Track, evaluate, and share results of public relations efforts.
  • Able to work a flexible schedule to include evenings and weekends.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Excellent multi-tasking and time management skills.
  • Perform other duties as assigned and warranted within Special Project's programs.
  • A sign language proficiency level of SURVIVAL according to the AIDB evaluation system must be obtained within the first twelve (12) months of employment and achieve Intermediate within the first thirty-six (36) months.
  • Upon offer of employment, the applicant must submit to a fingerprint background check at an agency designated and paid by AIDB."

SALARY: $50,526 - $67,399 Scale PI Rank 50

Direct Deposit is required.

This is an exempt position and is not subject to overtime or compensatory provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
