The Dorm Program Supervisor (DPS) is responsible for promoting an atmosphere conducive to the social, emotional, educational, and physical development of students; providing support and guidance to Student Life personnel, students and parents.

You will play a vital role in the lives of our students and be a part of the miracles that happen every day at AIDB and ASD. This will be accomplished by demonstrating flexibility, positive attitude, agility, and professional maturity



POSITION Qualifications

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree, Special Education, or 5 years work related experience.
  • May be required to possess a valid Alabama Driver License and may be required to obtain a CDL and Alabama School Bus Driver Licenses within the first twenty-four (24) months of employment. Must maintain yearly certification for Alabama School Bus Driver License (if applicable) and valid Alabama Driver License.
  • Two years of experience/training in supervision.
  • Must possess knowledge of federal and state statutes and laws concerning educational administration and programming, particularly as they relate to deaf, hard of hearing and other disabilities.
  • Must possess a sign language proficiency evaluation of Survival Plus upon employment and a proficiency level of Intermediate must be obtained within the first twelve (12) months and Advanced within thirty-six (36) months of employment.
  • All applicants must provide documentation of sign language proficiency or take a sign language proficiency evaluation (SCPI available through AIDB).

  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule including nights and weekends.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively and proficiently with both deaf, hard of hearing and hearing individuals and possess a commitment to the AIDB/ASD Communication Policy.
  • Must meet on-call requirements.
  • Must possess knowledge of federal and state statutes and laws concerning educational administration and programming, particularly as they relate to deaf, hard of hearing and other disabilities
  • The DPS is responsible for promoting an atmosphere conducive to the social, emotional, educational, and physical development of students; providing support and guidance to Student Life personnel, students and parents.

  • Participates in student staffing/conferences.
  • Must be able to develop and maintain rapport with staff members, students, parents, alumni, and others within the school and Institute.
  • Supervises the care and maintenance of the buildings, facilities and grounds assigned to Student Life to ensure these areas are safe, attractive and appropriately maintained. Submits work orders and maintenance requests as needed.
  • Provides emergency on-call services as required by crisis situations during non-duty hours.
  • Maintains and develops professional competence and growth through participation in staff development and in-service programs, including local, state, regional and national conferences, workshops and meetings.
  • Evaluates personnel assigned; conducts conferences to discuss areas of strengths and/or weaknesses; develops remediation plans to address staff weaknesses; submits reports, remediation plans, evaluations, etc. to the Director for approval.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
