ABOUT THE ROLE

The Assistive Technology Trainer's primary location for this position will be in the Huntsville Regional Center but will travel to the Decatur and Shoals Regional Centers on a set schedule based upon need. Assistive Technology Trainers provide training, both locally and via various distance learning technologies, to individuals and groups across Alabama. They will be responsible for curriculum development and progress tracking. These people must have a passion for working with students, staff, parents, and community partners. From assessment to goal achievement, these people will document services in a timely manner. Communication with students, staff, and our partner organizations is a vital part of these positions with strong writing, speaking, and public relations skills required.

The ideal candidate will possess a love for students with vision loss and will do whatever is necessary to provide limitless opportunities for our students. You will be a part of the miracles that happen every day at AIDB. BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  • Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • A willingness to learn and understand methodologies used to educate individuals with vision loss.
  • Expertise in Microsoft Office Suite and Google G-Suite.
  • Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively through interpersonal, verbal, and written communication.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Post-secondary training in one of the following fields: Assistive Technology, Computer Science, Computer Technology, and Technology Training, or related field.
  • Experience in teaching/training in group and one-on-one settings.
  • Knowledge of Assistive Technology, including a background in using CCTVs, screen magnifiers, screen readers, Braille translation software, and OCR software.
  • Preference will be given to persons with background and work experiences with assistive devices for the Blind, DeafBlind, and physically-challenged.


POSITION REQUIREMENTS
  • Must demonstrate competency in reading and writing Braille by scoring 80% or better on the AIDB Braille Skills Assessment inventory within the first twenty-four (24) months of employment.
  • Documented experience in using Microsoft operating systems and Microsoft Office software.
  • Must be able to assist with training for individuals who are blind or low vision.
  • Must be able to use large print Assistive Technology software and devices.
  • Must be willing to travel between work locations.
  • Complete AIDB online training on Deafness, Blindness, Visual Impairments, DeafBlindness and Multiple Disabilities within twelve (12) months of hire.
  • Must spend up to six weeks in Talladega for initial training. Accommodations may be provided by AIDB.
