Job Summary

Provides administrative support and assistance in implementing and overseeing DHH services within Student Disability Services (SDS). Responsible for assisting in the implementation of all policies and procedures related to DHH accommodations, ensuring effective delivery of student services and support.

Responsibilities

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Assists the DHH Services Manager in implementing DHH Services and campus-wide accommodations, including interpreters, real-time captions, note-takers, and equipment.
2. Maintains accurate records related to DHH services.
3. Provides information on accommodation services, advising, and orientation for DHH students.
4. Works closely with other university departments to provide institutional resources, assistance, and guidance to help DHH students resolve issues and overcome barriers to access.
5. Promotes the development of critical/creative thinking and problem-solving skills, as well as learning strategies for DHH students, resulting in improved connections to the campus community and success with personal and professional goals.
6. Provides follow-through and tracks the status of services provided through assessment and evaluation of DHH students.
7. Maintains, assigns, disperses, and collects Assistive Technology.
8. Collaborates with faculty, staff, and external agencies to identify accommodation concerns and develop action plans to resolve issues.
9. Provides on-site training and technical support services for students utilizing Assistive Technology.
10. May perform interpreting services and/or real-time captioning accommodations for DHH students in educational environments as needed and appropriate, under the direction of the supervisor.
11. Collects statistical data and develops semester, annual, and ad hoc reports as assigned.
12. Collaborates with the Assistive Technology Specialist to distribute, train, track, and troubleshoot assistive technology for DHH students.
13. Stays up to date with captioned media, real-time captioning, and interpreting standards and resources.
14. Assists with other departmental functions and performs other duties as requested.
15. Provides support for other divisional priorities and initiatives beyond the scope of the department, as requested.

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education with a concentration in Disability Services, ASL Interpreting, or a related field.

Required Experience
Two (2) years of related work experience

Preferred Qualifications

Additional Preferred Qualifications
Training in ASL interpreting and/or real-time captioning
Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) Certificate of Transliteration (CT) and/or Certificate of Interpretation (CI), American Consortium of Certified Interpreters (ACCI), Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA), or Certification as a Deaf Interpreter

Preferred Educational Qualifications
An advanced degree from an accredited institution of higher education in a related field

Preferred Experience
Experience in the provision of academic accommodations in secondary or higher education
Experience and knowledge of assistive technology for individuals with hearing loss
Familiarity with DHH student needs and technologies, as well as the qualifications necessary for accommodation providers.

Ability to successfully interact with a community comprised of individuals/groups from an array of backgrounds, experiences, and communication styles.
Ability to recognize and protect confidential information and exercise judgment, tact, and diplomacy in handling sensitive information and situations.
Able to handle multiple tasks or projects at one time, meeting assigned deadlines
Work occasional extended office hours as needed.

KNOWLEDGE
Knowledge and understanding of disabilities and disability laws, and common academic accommodations.
Experience and knowledge of captioned media standards and resources.
Demonstrated proficiency in federal and state laws and mandates related to higher education accessibility and provision of accommodations, including the ADA and Sections 504 and 508 of the Rehabilitation Act.

SKILLS
Excellent interpersonal, initiative, teamwork, problem-solving, independent judgment, organization, communication (verbal and written), time management, project management, and presentation skills
Strong attention to detail and follow-up skills
Strong customer service skills and phone and e-mail etiquette
Proficient with computer applications and programs associated with the position (i.e., Microsoft Office suite)
