POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- Must hold Alabama Teaching Certification.
- Must be able to physically assist students as required.
- A sign language proficiency evaluation of Intermediate upon employment.
- Utilize full range of communication and language levels including use of sign, spoken language, and any additional modes of communication.
- Upon offer of employment the applicant must submit to a fingerprint background check at an agency designated and paid by AIDB.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Demonstrate knowledge and ability to teach the subject matter as outlined in the Alabama Department of Education curriculum.
- Participate in development, implementation, and review of students' IEP based on curricular guidelines.
- Serve as a Case Manager.
- Maintain all required records and prepare necessary reports.
- Use existing and new student information systems.
- Protect confidentiality of student information.
- Participate in student staffing as necessary.
- Maintain all required records and prepare necessary reports.
- Prepare lesson plans based on curricular guidelines.
- Assess classroom/instructional needs, prepare classroom/instructional supply and equipment orders.
- Maintain attractive, clean, appropriate educational environment (orderly classroom).
- Prepare and display bulletin boards with educational themes.
- Chaperone students on field trips.
- Maintain classroom discipline.
- Assist in the establishment and implementation of classroom behavior management plans.
- Become familiar with and observe rules, regulations and policies of ASD and AIDB.
- Observe the Code of Ethics of the teaching profession.
- Work and cooperate with staff members, support personnel and administration to provide for the welfare and best interests of the students.
- Attend departmental and campus-wide faculty and committee meetings.
- Participate in training sessions and workshops provided.
- Supervise and work cooperatively with teacher aides assigned to class.
- Use tact and friendliness with parents and all other non-staff personnel in constant public relations program.
- Demonstrate professionalism in behavior and dress, as outlined in the staff handbook, in such a manner that sets a good example for the students.
- Deal with emergencies in a calm and logical manner.
- Maintain adequate AIDB inventory of equipment that is properly maintained and serviceable.
- Assist ASD with special activities and programs.
- Attend graduation, band and choral concert and student awards banquet, and assist with extra-curricular activities by supporting clubs, classes, and student activities as spectator, sponsor etc.
- Serve as a role model to students with professional behaviors and dress.
- Serve on committees as assigned and negotiated with the director and principal.
- Keep abreast of current research and teaching strategies of the Expanded Core Curriculum for implementation in classroom settings.
- Follow all the policies and procedures as outlined in the AIDB Policy and Procedure Manual.
- Follow and implement the ASD student and staff handbook.
- Other duties as assigned.
SALARY: $250.33 Daily Scale lC Rank 2T (BS-Class B)
$293.42 Daily Scale lC Rank 1T (MA-Class A)
$312.37 Daily Scale lC Rank AA (AA Certification)
Direct Deposit is required
This is an exempt position, and is not subject to overtime or compensatory provisions of the
Fair Labor Standards Act.
